‍Don Daubney is a beloved local legend and retired teacher from Croton-Harmon High School, highly celebrated for his 50-year legacy of teaching and coaching youth in Croton-on-Hudson. He is also an active member of the community, serving as a leader for the Croton Lions Club.

‍Due to his profound impact on generations of local athletes, the Village of Croton and the H.E.A.R.T. Committee recently hosted a major Basketball Clinic and Recognition Ceremony in his honor at Pierre Van Cortlandt Middle School.

‍Below are comments by Bob Anderson, President of the Croton Lions Club, honoring Don’s many contributions to the club over the years:

Don was born in 1935. The Croton Lions formed in 1939. My math says Don was four years old when he started to think about becoming a Croton Lion. He thought about it for about 30 years. He became a lion in 1969, 57 years ago, and is still going strong.

When he wasn't coaching and being the A.D. and raising a family he gave many service hours to the lions. Don has managed our free medical equipment loan trailer for over 50 years. It has served our community well.

There are rumors that Don was cutting trees down around the village for Christmas and selling them before it became the Annual Lions Christmas Tree Sale.  If you've ever bought one of our trees, Don had a hand in it - either pricing, trimming or selling them. It is our largest fundraiser.

Don has served on numerous lions committees and has served as an officer of the club. He's done a great job on our student scholarship committee.  This year we will award three scholarships of $5,000 each, an increase of $2,000 from last year thanks to the generosity of the Croton community. The lions have awarded over $500,000 to deserving students since 1939!

The list of contributions that Don has made to the village is substantial and he certainly deserves to be recognized by the H.E.A.R.T. Commitee and the Village of Croton as a gentleman and example we can and should aspire to.
